WMPG Radio Audio Engineer
Location: WMPG Radio, University of Southern Maine
Position Type:Part-Time, Contract Contractor Position – 10 hours per week.
Job Overview:
WMPG Radio is seeking an experienced Technical Director / Audio Engineer to ensure the
technical integrity of the station’s broadcast signal and studio equipment. The successful
candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing audio equipment, managing
technical operations, and supporting the overall performance of the station’s broadcast and off-
site functions.
Key Responsibilities:
● Studio & Audio Equipment Maintenance:
Regularly maintain, troubleshoot, and repair broadcast quality audio equipment and
computers related to broadcast functions.
● Installation & Upgrades:
Plan, design, procure, and install new or revised broadcast computing platforms,
ensuring systems are up to date and efficient.
● Technical Support:
Provide technical support for WMPG’s operations, including remote locations, ensuring
smooth audio and broadcast production.
● Diagnostic Checks:
Use electronic test equipment to perform routine diagnostic checks on all audio
equipment, identifying and resolving any issues quickly.
● Custom Component Fabrication:
Fabricate special components not readily available from commercial suppliers to meet
operational needs.
● Preventative Maintenance:
Perform routine preventive maintenance on studio, remote, and office audio equipment,
including wiring and cables.
● Network & IT Support:
Collaborate with USM ITMS and Network Maine to maintain and monitor computer
networks, ensuring the secure operation of the station’s IT systems.
● Equipment Records:
Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance, and installations on all technical
equipment.
● Consulting & Recommendations:
Provide technical consulting to the Station Manager, advising on potential equipment
purchases and upgrades.
● Design & Layout:
Design, plan, and install new electronic equipment as required by the station’s evolving
needs.
● Additional Responsibilities:
Perform any other duties reasonably assigned, supporting the station’s broader
technical needs.
Special Responsibilities:
● Security and IT Systems Access:
The role involves controlled access to or management of IT systems that may include
sensitive information. The contractor will be expected to maintain the confidentiality and
security of all IT systems.
Qualifications:
● Required Experience:
At least two years of experience in the repair and maintenance of broadcast-quality
studio equipment.
● Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of broadcast audio equipment, computers, and broadcast systems.
● Self-Directed Work Style:
Ability to work independently and make technical decisions without constant
supervision.
● Problem-Solving:
Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
● Team Collaboration:
Comfortable working with cross-functional teams, including IT, network support, and
management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Extensive knowledge of broadcast-quality audio systems, including analog and digital
equipment.
● Strong understanding of computer networks and IT systems related to broadcast
operations.
● Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex audio systems.
● Self-motivated, able to work autonomously while maintaining high technical standards.
