Bennett Radio Group Purchases Channel X Stations
Bennett Radio Group has agreed to purchase WXCU 97.7 FM Caribou, ME. WCXV 98.1 Van Buren, ME. WCXX 102.3 Madawaska, ME. and W276AY 103.1 Fort Kent, ME. from CANXUS Broadcasting Corporation for an undisclosed amount pending FCC approval.
Stan Bennett of the Bennett Radio Group, commented, “I have great respect for Richard Chandler, Pam Curley and the late Dennis Curley who worked tirelessly for the past 37 years serving the Northern Maine and Western New Brunswick communities with the Channel X Radio Network. This purchase will allow these stations to remain locally owned and operated serving The Crown of Maine & Western New Brunswick. As a lifelong “Mainer” who has worked my entire 37-year career here in Maine, I love the area and our locally owned and operated radio stations.”
Channel X GM and co-founder Richard Chandler added, “The County continues to rebound after Covid challenges and loss of cross border traffic, and this is a natural course for CanXus. For the last 5 years we’ve researched possible partners, and The Bennett Radio Group will be the perfect “match” to keep our County Voice Loud ‘N Clear, while also giving us a stronger position statewide to compete with out of area box store sized Radio and TV broadcasters for regional Maine and New England advertising budgets.”
In memory of the late Douglas Christensen and Pete Edwards, they would appreciate that we’ll have once again three Maine Hall of Fame Broadcasters (Stan-Pam and Richard) under one flag once again.” The current Team here: Rob Hohman, Rich Mello, David Leo Sirois, Adam, Vanessa and Trish will continue to “Rock N Roll”. Richard concluded that he’ll continue his role in Marketing and coordinating live-on-site coverage of all premiere events in northern Maine and western New Brunswick.
Stan Bennett has been in Maine radio since 1986 beginning at WIGY-FM/WJTO-AM in Bath, Me. He attended the New England School of Broadcasting in Bangor and over the last 37 years has held many positions within the radio business. Stan and his wife Alison currently own and operate Country/92.7 & 100.7 WOXO, Norway, Me., Adult Hits/105.5 WIGY Lewiston/Auburn, Me. and News Talk/WPNO South Paris, Me. Stan currently serves on the board of directors for the Maine Association of Broadcasters, has been inducted into the Maine Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame and awarded the Broadcast Achievement award in 2018.
